What This Tool Checks

Paste your resume to get a quick health check based on common best practices used by recruiters and applicant tracking systems (ATS). This tool looks for:

  • Key sections: Experience, education, skills, summary, or objective statements
  • Action verbs: Words like "managed," "developed," "implemented," "led," "improved"
  • Length: Ideal range is 200–500 words (roughly 1 page)
  • Contact info: Email address and phone number indicators

The score is a starting point, not a guarantee. For a thorough review, consider asking a career counselor or using a dedicated ATS scanner.

How the Score Works

You start with 20 points. The tool adds points for each key section found (+5 each), action verbs used (+3 each), ideal length (+10), and contact details (+10). The maximum is 100. A score below 50 usually means major sections are missing. Scores above 80 suggest a solid foundation.

Resume Best Practices

  • Keep it to one page if you have under 10 years of experience. Two pages is acceptable for senior roles.
  • Use bullet points for achievements, not paragraphs. Recruiters scan in 6–7 seconds.
  • Quantify results where possible: "Increased sales by 23%" beats "Improved sales."
  • Match keywords from the job description. Many ATS systems filter by keyword match.
  • Avoid graphics and tables for ATS-submitted resumes. Plain text parses best.
  • Use a professional email (firstname.lastname@email.com). Avoid nicknames or outdated providers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool use artificial intelligence?

No. This tool uses keyword matching and rule-based checks to identify common resume issues. It does not use machine learning or call external AI APIs. All processing happens locally in your browser.

Is my resume data secure?

Yes. Your resume text is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. It is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted to any server.

What does the score mean?

The score is a heuristic out of 100 based on common resume best practices: presence of key sections (experience, education, skills), use of action verbs, ideal length (200-500 words), and contact information. It is not an ATS score and should be used as a starting point, not a guarantee.

Can I use this for multiple jobs?

Yes. Tailor your resume for each job by matching keywords from the job description, then run it through this checker to see if those keywords are detected.
