This tool uses a colour-key method, the same idea as a green screen. You choose the background colour, and every pixel close enough to that colour becomes transparent. The "tolerance" slider sets how close is close enough, and "edge softness" fades the pixels at the border so the cut-out does not look jagged.
There are two modes. Background connected to the edges starts from the borders of the image and only removes matching pixels that can be reached from the outside. That keeps white parts inside your subject, such as a white label on a bottle or the eye of a logo. Every pixel of that colour removes the colour everywhere, which is useful for icons with holes or text.
An evenly lit white or grey sheet gives the cleanest result. Shadows under the product are the usual reason for grey leftovers.
JPG compression adds noise around edges. If you have the original PNG, use that; otherwise raise the tolerance a little.
Click a typical background area, not a shadow or an edge, so the colour you pick represents the whole background.
A value around 5 to 15 smooths the border. Too much softness makes a halo of the old background colour.

No. It uses a simple colour-based method. That makes it fast and private, but it works only when the background is one flat colour. For a person or object on a busy background, you need an AI or manual selection tool.
Tolerance sets how far a pixel's colour can be from the background colour and still be removed. Edge softness fades the pixels along the border so the cut-out looks smoother. Raise tolerance for noisy JPG backgrounds, and keep softness low to avoid a halo.
"Background connected to the edges" removes only matching pixels that touch the image border or are connected to it, so same-coloured areas inside your subject stay. "Every pixel of that colour" removes the colour everywhere in the image.

Edges of photos blend the subject and the background, so some pixels are a mix of both colours. Increase the tolerance a little, add a small amount of edge softness, or re-shoot on a plain, evenly lit backdrop. Hair and fine detail may need a dedicated editing tool.
